The history of Mechatron Kart

It was spring 2005 when there were two guys who were connected by the same hobby: Karting.

The two did not know each other before and they did not imagine where they will stand in two years…

There was Paul GROSS, nowadays technical manager and CEO of Mechatron-Kart, 27 years old and German.
In the beginning of 2005 he was engaged at VOLKSWAGEN/factory Baunatal, Europe’s biggest automotive gearbox manufacturer, to get there mechatronics engineer after a 5 years apprenticeship. His passion always was technics, and therefore he used his hobby karting as a platform to develop and experimentate with mechatronics. One Idea was the replacement oft he shifting lever against a shifting system like used in the formula one and modern automotive gearbox systems. So he started to develop this project for his kart, representing it on his website with the name „mechatron-engineering“.

350kms away from Paul, there was Eric DENNER, nowadays marketing and sales manager and CEO of Mechatron-Kart , 36 years old and french.

At the same time, he was sales-manager of his father’s company OUTILTEC-PRECIDENN, a company providing special chipping tools for the manufacturing automotive and automotive suppliers industry. Karting for him was more than a hobby but his passion, and although he was successful and content in his work, he had the desire to build up something own, connected to his passion. So he had the vision of something innovative in this scene, something which would be able to start a revolution in the karting world.

Therefore he searched the internet for inspirations and Ideas, and one day, he hit the website of Paul.

Some weeks later, the two met each other and it was directly clear, that they will work together as a perfect team.
They decided to realize their common dream, to have a perfect working and merchandisable shifting system for shifter karts, to get the ultimative formula one spirit into the scene.

And so, the story of MECHATRON-KART and the ME-Shifter F1 began…

Two years later, and after more than 10 000 hours of development and tests, it was done, and the ME-SHIFTER F1 started getting commercialized as the first and until today unique perfectly working formula one shifting system.

During the development of our system, it was very helpful to get a precise feedback of our very first customers and testing drivers“ so the two MECHATRON CEO´s. „Only if you listen very exactly to critics of experienced drivers, technicals and racing team managers, you are able to convert these informations into technical modifications which finally is the way to a good product.

 The Company

The former MECHATRON-KART S.A.R.L. was located in Schirrhein (France) till the end of 2011. In 2012, the company was bought by Paul GROSS and set up in Germany.

The company is very international aligned, not only because of their two heads Eric DENNER and Paul GROSS, who have both different nationalities, but also because of their trading structure: „95% of our business volume is assigned to the export“ so Eric DENNER. „We don´t know borders and we have customers all over the world, in Europe but also in Japan, USA, Russia, Singapore or Brazil for example

The production process is a little more local“ so Paul GROSS.  „we have our suppliers in Germany and France, to have a good overview and can rely to continuous quality. Even our electronic components are manufactured and programmed in Germany“. The final mounting of the MECHATRON-KART systems and all accessories takes place in the MECHATRON-KART factory in France, where every single system gets completely checked before they get shipped to all over the world.

 The future of MECHATRON-KART

Paul GROSS about the aims of MECHATRON-KART in regard to technics:
First of all, we keep our main focus to the ME-SHIFTER F1, to ensure our customers to always be supplied with the best available technology which fits our high quality standards. In parallel to this, we work on some ME-SHIFTER F1 upgrade systems which we will provide to our customers when the time therefore has come, an „automatic shifting module“  for example. Every hold-up is a step back - anything else is Top Secret.

Eric DENNER about the aims of MECHATRON-KART in regard to marketing:
We reached a lot until this day when you see that our product has the official KZ1 agreement and as we can see in the hobby sector, we got not a single one negative feedback, furthermore the people always ask us the same question: „Why didn´t you invent this earlier? It's so excellent to drive with the ME-SHIFTER F1!“ This is very nice to hear, but also in this case we will not rest at this point. We would like the people to think about our motto: „Safety, Comfort, Precision, Endurance, Reliability and Performance“. . We also do many and many tests with more than 10 official factory drivers and the feedback was also very positive."
"That drivers have more comfort, precision and endurance seems not be difficult to understand – it´s clear that you have these advantages when you keep both hands on the steering wheel.
The point reliability gets also more and more understood, scepticals get rare, and when they see our system in action, there is no more argument to say „it doesn’t work“. But the point „safety“ is often underestimated. People should internalize that they also invest in there own security, having always both handy on the steering wheel. Not only for beginners but also for experienced drivers this investition is payed out at the latest when their kart gets damaged or even the driver injured. So I hope that the drivers start to think more about this point in the future, because the safety of the drivers in kartsport is one of the most important point for us. Our upcoming aim is also to get the agreement for the ME-SHIFTER F1 in KZ2 Class, because we have always more demand from KZ2 Drivers who would like to use the ME-SHIFTER F1 in Race. We must do a big work and contact the federations of each country to speak about, because we really thing that our innovative product bring an evolution for the karting future.“
